Reflections:

Variations Across Contexts

Students will be able to identify, analyze, and reflect on variation in rhetorical and linguistic patterns, including their own, from a range of contexts (e.g. cultural, digital, workplace, and/or academic).

Reading Response 1: Eve of the Spirit Festival:

For Reading Response one we are tasked to identify a character in the passage "Eve of the Spirit Festival" that exhibits signs of a double consciousness. Through analyzing the text you can identify that both Claudia and Emily exhibit signs of double consciousness. It can be identified that they both struggle with their personal beliefs not only in themselves but in their culture. This creates an internal struggle or in their case a double conscience. These were the main points made in the response that I wrote for the paper. With the passage being relatively short the author had to use interesting tactics to illustrate the concept.

Reading Response 3: The Glass Castle:

To write Reading Response Three the prompt was given to find two scenes in which Jeanette Walls seemed to have lost faith in her father. It becomes very clear as the story goes on that Jeanette realizes her father's issues and realizes that it is time for a change not only for the betterment of herself but for her siblings as well. This is seen through several patterns that can be observed when reading the story. It almost seemed like a constant circle. In which Jeanette loses faith in her father but then does something drastic that brings Jeanette back to his side. This was just a simple observation that could be concluded by analyzing the text and identifying the issues that Jeanette faces.
